Here’s an update to the work being done to renovate accommodation on the site of the Princess Royal Hospital to encourage recruitment of junior and middle grade doctors
Late last year three houses were stripped of their interiors. Then, after generous donations, the project was extended to include a fourth house.
Now, work has begun to put new things in.
These pictures show the latest work being done to two of the houses.
Later this month there will be new flooring followed by the installation of the kitchens. When these houses are completed, they will be offered for free by the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust to junior and middle grade doctors to help with much needed recruitment.
Cllr Shaun Davies, Leader of Telford & Wrekin Council, said: “Doctors earlier told me this project to provide good quality free accommodation would be a game changer, especially for newly qualified doctors who graduate with debts of around £100,000. Since this idea was first mooted, I have heard that there has been a lot of interest from undergraduate doctors and newly qualified doctors in wanting to work at the Princess Royal Hospital. As this work continues on refurbishing the houses and now that we can see the progress being made, I am told that the interest is increasingly turning into excitement.”
